National EMS Week

This is the 51st year we celebrate EMS week with the theme being "We care. For everyone." Every year at this time I reflect on my experiences as an EMS provider and remember the good, the bad, and all of the people I've met along the way. Funny thing is I stumbled into this career by accident. I never saw myself doing this, yet here I am 33 years later, I wouldn't have traded it for the world. There is always the ongoing discussions about work environments, pay, interpersonal conflicts with other first responders and healthcare workers, and where EMS fits. The patient doesn't understand any of that. They are having their emergency, and in spite of all of the above, we step up and focus on them.. To all of my colleagues, I'm proud of all of you and the good we do. It may not always feel that way, but our communities are better because of you. Take this week and celebrate you, your accomplishments, and our profession., you've earned it.
